Dying Light 2 Developer Techland Reveals Ridiculous System Requirements

Dying Light 2 is one of the most anticipated releases of the coming year, and Techland has just revealed the system requirements for the game. From the looks of it, players should be able to run the game on the Low preset at 1080p with a decent NVIDIA GTX 1050i, however even with the RTX 3080 it looks like the highest gamers can up the resolution and the FPS is 1080p at 60fps.

The norm for mainstream AAA games in the current generation is to allow the game to run 4K at 60fps, and in some cases 120fps (at lower resolutions). Which is why a game recommending an absurdly powerful RTX 3080 to run a game at 1080p seems a little odd.

Dying Light 2 system requirements seem strange

Generally, the RTX 3080 doesn’t make it into the “Recommended”section of the system requirements page, but even if it does, it can usually fall outside the scope of offering Full HD games. Dying Light 2 may very well be one of the prettiest games out there, but the fact that both the RTX 2070 and 3080 play the game at the same resolution feels a bit awkward.

First, the performance jump of the two GPUs is quite dramatic. Basically, this should mean that the game runs much better on the RTX 3080 than on the 2070, but that doesn’t seem to be the case as the only difference is the Low and High RT presets. If a massive RTX 3080 is required to play at 1080p and everything else is set to High, one can only imagine what in the world could run a game at 4K, if at all possible.

Perhaps Dying Light 2 could set a dangerous new precedent where players will have to shell out a ton of money for a powerful GPU like the RTX 3080 to get the most out of their game. From what Techland has shown in Dying Light 2 so far, it looks pretty a solid game and technical masterpiece, but the system requirements seem a little unsettling at the moment.
