God of War developer Santa Monica Studios is working on a new “large-scale” unannounced project

God of War developer Santa Monica Studio, one of the largest PlayStation studios, is currently working on a massive unannounced project. This information comes through an SMS job listing for an art director to work on a “large scale new project”.

With God of War Ragnarok scheduled for release later this year, work on the game should be almost complete. Also, “new project”pretty much confirms that the position is not for a game that is already close to release or in the later stages of development.

2022 promises to be a big year for Santa Monica Studio with the release of God of War Ragnarok, one of the most anticipated games of the year. It will be interesting to see if this is really a new studio IP or a spin-off from the GoW franchise.

God of War Santa Monica Studio’s next big project could be a new IP

Previously, God of War Ragnarok was scheduled to release in 2021, much to everyone’s surprise. Mainly because a game of this scale and scope usually doesn’t come out this close to the franchise’s previous installment since the last game only came out in 2018.

However, the game was pushed back to 2022, with actor Christopher Judge (Kratos) revealing that the delay was the result of him getting injured and in need of rehab. The release of the game is scheduled for 2022, but the exact release date is unknown.

While there is a possibility that this could be a sequel to Ragnarok, Santa Monica Studios will have to work a little harder to work on a new IP. Since the studio has been working exclusively on God of War games for some time now.

The studio was originally working on a new IP ahead of GoW 2018, but the game was canceled early in development. It will be interesting to see what game Santa Monica will work on next and whether it fits in with SIE’s vision for the future of live service gaming.
