Redditor shares photos of Apple Watch Ultra that surfaced two days before launch
If you were one of the first to pre-order the new Apple Watch Ultra after Apple wrapped up its reveal at this month’s event, then you’re in luck for shipping this Friday, September 23rd. Many who have pre-ordered Apple’s latest and greatest wearables are seeing delays in shipping their order, but one absurdly lucky person seems to have received their Apple Watch Ultra today… two days ahead of schedule.
In a Reddit post posted on /r/ AppleWatch, a writer under the username /u/playalisticadilac posted detailed photos of the Apple Watch Ultra in its OEM packaging and compared it to an older generation of Apple Watch.
If you’ve been on the verge of ordering an Apple Watch Ultra for reasons like worry that it’s too big for your wrist or old Apple Watch bands and straps don’t fit, the poster seems to dispel many of those concerns. In fact, one comment mentions that despite having “average or smaller than average”wrists, the Apple Watch Ultra “doesn’t feel gigantic”as they initially expected.
In other comments, the poster talks about how the new orange Alpine Loop strap is quite difficult to get on and off the wrist compared to something as simple as a Milanese loop.
As for fitting old Apple Watch bands and bands, which I was personally worried about before pre-ordering due to the new case design, the poster showed a Milanese loop attached to the Apple Watch Ultra. You can see in the image that while the Apple logo strap fits, it doesn’t sit as snugly on the case as many hoped, leaving some small gaps at the edges of the lugs relative to the case:
This is something of a bummer, as Apple spent little time discussing how the old Apple Watch bands and bands would fit with the Apple Watch Ultra when they unveiled it at the event. Instead, they spent more time showing off the new straps made especially for him and eclipsed the curiosity of potential buyers by simply noting that the old straps or straps would “work”.
Compared to the old generation Apple Watch, we can see how much bigger the new Apple Watch Ultra display really is without adding too much to the existing form factor.
It looks like the poster ordered his Apple Watch Ultra through AT&T, not Apple. While the Cupertino-based company goes out of its way to make sure buyers receive their pre-orders on launch day, the involvement of third-party carriers IE means there’s always some risk of errors like this occurring.
Did the photos prompt you to order an Apple Watch Ultra, or will you stay with Series 8 or older? Let us know in the comments section below.
