BigBoss Repository Starts Accepting Unrooted Packages Following Chariz & Havoc
If you’ve been following the jailbreak community recently, then you should know that many of the major repositories hosting jailbreak tweaks and other add-ons for jailbroken iPhones and iPads are adding support for non-rooted packages, with the first two being Charise and Havok.
Just this week, another powerful program introduced support for rootless packages, and the name will be familiar to seasoned jailbreakers: BigBoss.
We first became aware of the change after Fugu15 project developer Max @opa334 wrote about it on Thursday morning. We of course know that Fugu15 Max will be a no-root jailbreak for iOS and iPadOS 15.0-15.4.1. There has been no official announcement of this change from the BigBoss repository, however we are awaiting official comment.
Indeed, the longtime BigBoss repository now accepts rootless jailbreak tweaks and packages that will work with no-root dynamics on iOS and iPadOS 15 and 16 devices, which is a given these days when Apple Signed System Volume (SSV) protections have made rootless one of the only viable ways for the community to move forward.
While some developers have started by hosting their own unrooted repositories, the acceptance of unrooted packages in large and centralized repositories like BigBoss, Chariz, and Havoc means that more jailbreakers can take advantage of modern packages without having to hunt down random developer repositories. and potentially missing out on good settings.
However, it is worth noting that only Chariz and Havoc support paid jailbreak settings. BigBoss has never implemented its own payment system, which means that only developers of free jailbreak tweaks or free packages with their own built-in payment system and DRM will be able to take advantage of BigBoss.
In any case, it’s good to see that the BigBoss repository is upgrading packet acceptance to match the non-rooted dynamic, in addition to the normal rooted dynamic that many jailbreakers currently use.
