Roblox Unveils Its First Generative AI Game Creation Tools
Roblox introduces its first Generative AI game creation tools. The first step towards a much bigger goal.
Last month, Roblox laid out its vision for an AI content creation system, envisioning a future where generative AI can help users create code, 3D models, and more with simple text entries. Today, the giant is revealing its first steps towards that goal by allowing “every Roblox user to be a creator”by launching its first AI tools: Code Assist and Material Generator, both available in beta.

Currently, none of these tools can create a playable Roblox experience with simple text descriptions, but Steph Corazza, director of Roblox Studio, stated during GQC 2023 that they can “help automate basic coding tasks so you can focus on the creative aspect.”For now, this means being able to generate useful code snippets and textures from very little information. Roblox’s announcement of these tools offers several examples for creating realistic “very bright red stone canyon”and “stained glass”textures, or for creating a few lines of working code to detect color change on certain objects and self-destruct. after the player interacts with them.

These two features may sound familiar to you if you have experience with AI chatbots. GPT-3, for example, can already generate functional code according to your (simple) requirements.
Code Assist seems very promising, but Roblox points out that, in its current form, the system is very advanced, as it is capable of generating “incorrect”or “misleading”information. “You will still need to analyze, test and determine if the proposed code is appropriate in your context.”In any case, Stef Corazza is sure that this is only the first step towards the ultimate goal, which is that everyone on the platform can act as a creator. In other words, it’s only a matter of time before these tools can generate something fully playable or even interactive 3D scenes from your simple descriptions.
