Today, there are many robots that can vacuum and mop floors, but they are never completely satisfactory. On some you have to manually operate the system to add a wash item, others run a brush full of dirt over your clean carpets. This is a problem that iRobot has been working on for a long time, and according to the brand, the new Combo j7+ is the solution. According to the manufacturer, this is “the first legal 2-in-1 robot vacuum cleaner and mop ever made.”

Instead of asking the user to act in the middle of a mission, the j7+ has a standard vacuum cleaner chassis on top. However, when finished, a pair of recessed arms lowers the mop built into the unit to mop the floor. And if by chance the robot needs to cross the carpet, for example, it picks up a mop. Therefore, the user only needs to change the bag and fill the water tank, which can hold up to 60 days of supply.

Colin Angle, co-founder and CEO of iRobot, and product manager Praj Shyamkant explain that the idea was to make sure the mop never comes into contact with your soft surfaces. And that users can have a device that behaves exactly as the description says without any manual intervention. Since the machine uses the same dimensions as the standard j7 model, a lot of engineering work was required to integrate this equipment and these features.

The perfect tool for the home?

At the same time, iRobot wanted to unleash the full power of its new iRobot OS 5.0 operating system. The menu has improved integration with assistants such as Siri and Alexa, the ability to assign areas for extra attention and better avoidance of danger. You can also change cleaning missions on the fly, for example to kick Roomba out of a room. iRobot also wanted to state its commitment to protecting user data by promising never to sell it to third parties. There is also TÜV SÜD Cyber ​​Security certification.

Coming soon in France

The Roomba Combo j7+ is now available for pre-order from iRobot in the US. It will be offered “soon”in France for €999. First deliveries are expected in the US on October 4, with no specific date currently for France. Please note that a version without cleaning base is available in the UK. It should also be offered in France.
