Overwatch 2 D.Va guide: how to play (tips and strategies)

Overwatch 2 is finally out with tons of new features and characters. That being said, the sequel also features several recurring characters, including D.Va. She is a Tank class character similar to the previous game, with a wide range of abilities. Since you can only have one tank character in a 5v5 match, using it can be a bit of a hassle. So check out our guide for the best strategies and tips for playing D.Va in Overwatch 2.

How to play D.Va in Overwatch 2 (strategy and tips)

Before we dive into her play style, you need to unlock D.Va. You can unlock it by completing the tutorial and completing two unranked matches.

  • Since D.Va is the only Tank class in the match, D.Va’s health and mech’s health have been slightly improved.
  • Her normal health has increased to 450 and her mech’s health has increased to 650. So D.Va has high enough health to be on the front line. But she’s also great for ranged combat against her enemies.
  • She can reduce all knockback attacks and fly to help her team with her passive ability.
  • You can use the Booster ability to push your enemies out of the arena.
  • With this ability, D.Va can fly in whatever direction he is moving forward. If you collide with enemies, they will take short damage and knockback.
  • You can also use Micro Missiles ability with her main weapon Fusion Cannons to deal more damage.
  • While Micro Milsilles deal significant melee damage, we recommend keeping your distance. This is because fighting offensive characters like Reinhardt can be risky.
  • For defense, you can use D.Va’s defense matrix, which creates a matrix to block incoming projectiles.
  • This visible matrix blocks all projectiles that are active for three seconds after being activated. Defense Matrix can be quite an effective ability to block ranged attacks and projectiles.
  • However, this ability cannot block offensive melee attacks from characters such as Brighetta, Reinhardt, or the Junker Queen.
  • When D.Va is inside her mechanical suit, she can use fusion cannons as her main weapon. On the other hand, she can use light weapons outside of her mechanical suit.
  • The best part about this weapon is that it doesn’t need to be reloaded. But the trick here is that you can get a traffic slowdown penalty for spam attacks.
  • Once she is ejected from her suit, she can use the weapon of Light to gain a charge for her ultimate ability.
  • Speaking of her ultimate ability, Self Destruct works exactly as the name suggests.
  • With this ability, you can self-destruct your mech suit and call in an area attack to damage your enemies. However, he can deal 2000 damage and a guaranteed kill if timed correctly.
  • You can also gain a charge to use the Ultimate ability by using a light weapon outside of the suit.
  • In order to regain your Ultimate Charge, you may need to defeat a distant opponent like Roadhog. When you activate this ability, it will summon a mechanical suit that will explode on the ground.
