Starting April 1st, even users who have been certified to Twitter Blue will have to place an order.
Twitter is preparing to remove the blue check marks from previously Blue-certified users. To save it, you will need to subscribe to a subscription.
Okay, Twitter accounts that were certified before the paid certification through Twitter Blue was implemented will lose their little blue tick if they don’t pay for the subscription too. The site made an announcement to this effect, stating that it would “end its original certification program and phase out the original certified checkmarks”on April 1st. It was no secret to anyone that the company would follow this path. Shortly after the launch of Twitter Blue in November 2022, CEO Elon Musk stated that there were “too many corrupt certification marks”and that the company would remove them in the coming months.
Twitter prepares to remove blue ticks from Blue-certified users
Now it looks like it’s time to remove that blue checkmark that was set for eligible accounts before verification was introduced. Unless it’s an attempt at an April Fool’s joke. With Elon Musk, anything is possible. In addition, it is not yet clear whether the site plans to remove all of these certifications at once or in several waves. Since the company no longer has a press office, we can’t expect an official announcement on this matter.
To save it, you will need to subscribe to a subscription
Twitter’s announcement of these old verified accounts came right after Blue subscriptions became available worldwide. Until now, only a few countries have had access to it. Users around the world can now pay monthly if they wish. In addition to getting a blue checkmark next to their username, subscribing to this subscription allows them to increase their maximum tweet size to 4,000 characters, edit their posts, and rank higher in replies. Expanding Blue’s reach is absolutely essential if Elon Musk is to achieve his goal of getting half of Twitter’s subscription revenue.
