Over 10 million players have played Death Stranding since launch
Death Stranding passes the 10 million player mark. The future of the license looks very interesting.
For a project that divided critics and gamers alike, Death Stranding was a huge hit worldwide. The game is celebrating its third anniversary and Kojima Productions just announced that over 10 million players have already played the studio’s first game. This significant figure takes into account all platforms where Death Stranding is available, including PC Game Pass.
Death Stranding has passed the 10 million player mark
“It makes me happy to think that there are over 10 million Sam One players worldwide and they are all connected to each other,” creator Hideo Kojima tweeted.
It may seem obvious that the game from the creator of Metal Gear Solid is a commercial success, but it must be admitted that it has not always been on the right track. In a way, Death Stranding was a big flop when it came out. According to a post at ResetEra in 2020, Sony stated that they were very unhappy with the sales of the game, with the author of the post claiming that as of March of that year, there were still up to 3 million copies of Death Stranding in stock. But a critical reassessment of the game began, which was greatly helped, of course, by either the pandemic or the arrival on the PC. In Death Stranding, many players have come across experiences that have helped them find some meaning in a world that has changed dramatically, and by July 2021, the game has sold 5 million copies.
The future of the license looks very interesting
As for the future of Death Stranding, actor Norman Reedus recently said in an interview that Kojima Productions is working on a sequel. In recent weeks, the studio has also begun teasing the game, which will feature actors Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna.
As of November 8, 2022, DEATH STRANDING has over 10 million porters worldwide on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.
