Samsung Galaxy S22 will receive a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip instead of Exynos 2200

Samsung is preparing to launch the next series of flagship smartphones. The company is expected to unveil the Galaxy S22 series at the Galaxy Unpacked event in February 2022. The company has not confirmed official launch details for the upcoming Galaxy flagship. However, there are rumors that the device will hit international markets on February 8th. Like every year, Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy S series flagship soon after the global launch. Although some key details of the devices have been leaked, a new leak suggests that Samsung may be making major changes to the Indian version of the Galaxy S22 series.

Performance Samsung Galaxy S22 series

Samsung may launch Galaxy S22 series with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. The company launched its recent flagships with Exynos chip under the hood. The current flagship of the Galaxy S series, the S21 series, is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 2100 SoC. Tipster Tron claims that the flagship variant of Samsung’s upcoming smartphone series will include a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC under the hood.

The recently released SoC is said to offer significant performance and efficiency gains. It has a 1+3+4 cluster and is based on a 4nm process. Samsung is also working with AMD on its upcoming Exynos 2200 SoC to improve graphics performance. However, the company has yet to officially announce the details of its upcoming Exynos chip. Samsung is expected to hold a virtual launch event for the Exynos 2200 SoC a few days before the Galaxy Unpacked event, as it usually does every year.

There have been reports claiming that Samsung will rely on Qualcomm for most of its products in 2022. The company is reportedly planning to launch more than 60 devices next year, nearly half of which will be powered by the Snapdragon chip. One of the expected reasons is the ongoing shortage of chips. There are currently no test results for the Galaxy S22 series with the flagship Snapdragon chip on the net. However, one of the devices, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, was spotted on Geekbench with an Exynos 2200. The device scored 691 and 3167 in Geekbench’s single-core and multi-core tests, trailing Apple’s A15 Bionic chip which scored 1732 and 4685. However, the Snapdragon variant could come close to Apple’s iPhone SoC.
