Samsung is phasing out conventional phones but continues to sell phones under Rs 15,000 in India
Does Samsung plan to stop selling phones under Rs 15,000 in India? The answer is no. Some media have claimed that Samsung may stop selling phones under Rs 15,000. However, an industry insider confirmed to MySmartPrice that the company is not moving out of the sub-Rs 15,000 price segment.
Samsung is likely to leave the Indian segment of feature or basic phones. An ET report claimed that the major South Korean manufacturer would gradually exit India’s low-end basic phone segment. Citing people familiar with the matter, the report adds that Dixon is producing the last batch of devices for India by the end of this year. Speaking to MySmartPrice, an industry insider, without giving an exact timeline, said the company is moving out of the entry-level segment by the end of 2022, or at most by early 2023.
This could mean that Samsung will stop selling phones like the Guru and Hero series phones that have been very popular in the country. Unfortunately, the company does not list its mobile phones on its main site.
Samsung’s exit from the feature phone segment will not only open up the entry-level feature phone market to brands like itel and Nokia.
Samsung’s decision to exit the feature phone market in India may be due to several factors. According to a report by Counterpoint Research, earlier this year the overall mobile phone market in India fell sharply by 39% year on year.
He added that the decline in the mobile phone market was due to several factors, including supply issues, high inventory levels and even falling consumer demand. Speaking of the leading feature phone brand, itel leads the feature phone market with a larger share.
Speaking of Samsung phones priced around Rs 15,000, the company sells several phones in India including Galaxy M12, Galaxy F41, Galaxy M31, Galaxy A13, Galaxy F22, Galaxy F12 and Galaxy M21 2021 Edition. Even on Amazon.in, several Samsung phones are listed as bestsellers under Rs 15,000 such as Samsung Galaxy M32 and Samsung Galaxy M12.
