Samsung is launching the One UI 5 beta based on Android 13 for its Galaxy S22. Pretty minor new features that should improve the experience, especially on folding screen devices.
Samsung has launched a beta version of its vision for Android 13, One UI 5, for Galaxy S22 smartphones. As with Android 13 itself, most of the changes are minor, with a few cosmetic improvements and fixes for security, notifications, the camera, and more. That being said, Android 13 brings important new features to smartphones with foldable screens like the Galaxy Fold 4, due to be officially unveiled during the Samsung Unpacked event on August 10th.

The South Korean giant is also releasing updates to its OS faster, with One UI 5 coming out a month ahead of UI 4 last year. The OS uses the Android 13 theme change with 12 new color options for the home screen, icons, and quick access bars. You can also save screen space by stacking widgets on top of each other and using accessibility features such as the magnifying glass tool to enlarge text and objects. There is also a system for reading keyboard input.
Fairly minor new features that should help improve the experience
You’ll see updates to Android 13, such as new notification settings that require apps to ask for permission before sending notifications. The new security panel lets you check security and privacy on the go, and you can set your preferred language on a per-app basis.
especially on folding screen devices
Android 13’s enhancements to foldable smartphones have been designed for devices like the Fold 3, which has different sizes, resolutions, and pixel densities on the inner and outer screens. Samsung is already offering this feature for the Fold 3, but Android 13’s native support should allow for more, especially in terms of productivity tools.
In any case, we’ll find out more during the Unpacked event on August 10th at 3pm. Until then, if you’re in the US, South Korea, or Germany and own a Galaxy S22, you can test this One UI 5 update through the Samsung Members app – be aware of the risks associated with using beta software.
