Sherlock Holmes: the cinematic universe will spread to television
Warner Bros wants to create a Sherlock Holmes universe with Robert Downey Jr.
Two additional series based on the universe of the recent Sherlock Holmes adaptation are in development for the streaming platform HBO Max. Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell of Team Downey are executive producers along with Lionel Wigram of Wigram Productions. Unlike the Suicide Squad, Peacekeeper, and Penguin spin-offs, which are built around existing characters, Sherlock Holmes spin-offs are expected to revolve around characters yet to be introduced.
The characters will become part of the third part of the cinematic universe, which has been in the works for a long time. Originally scheduled for December 2020 and later pushed back to December 2021, the third film has been delayed due to the pandemic and does not currently have a new release date. The future of the series depends on the fate of the third film. Trying to adjust to Downey Jr.’s schedule, American actor and director Dexter Fletcher, who replaced Guy Ritchie’s director of the first two films, publicly announced his intention to direct him.
