Skate: free to play on both generations of consoles
Full Circle Studio offers free play with Skate.
Developed by Canadian Electronic Arts studio Full Circle, Skate will take place in a new city called San Vansterdam, which is in the same universe as the old episodes (San Vanelona). To explain the free-to-play approach, the team of veteran developers and skate enthusiasts didn’t hesitate to confirm that the reboot will have no paid mechanics or areas of the map blocked behind paywalls. Paid loot boxes will also not be part of Skate, and microtransactions will be mostly cosmetic.
Long sequel to Skate
“Our vision is not a game that you can finish, but that you return to regularly to discover something new. Our dream is for Skate to never stop,” says Isabelle Mockard, Product Manager at Full Circle Studio. So expect regular updates in the form of seasonal content like Fortnite, one of the kings of the gaming service. The new part of the Skate license will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Xbox One, as well as PC with cross-play and cross-progression support.
Full Circle Studio is currently testing Skate, but a recently closed test that gives fans a chance to test out an early version of the game proved hugely popular, it was hacked and released online for anyone to download. In a statement responding to the bug, EA said: “We are aware that an earlier version of the game was distributed without our permission. This version was released in September 2021 and was never intended for external use.”
