Apple Silicon chip refresh cycle every 18 months? This is stated in a new Taiwanese report.

Apple announced the Apple Silicon line and its very first chip in 2020. The Cupertino-based company then released the M1 chip late last year. At the same time, the professional press, as well as fans of the Apple brand, hoped to find the M2 chip this year. In the end, they were only allowed an improved version of the M1 chip, called the M1 Max and M1 Pro. What does it mean?

Apple Silicon chip refresh cycle every 18 months?

If a report from the Taiwanese newspaper Commercial Times is to be believed, it looks like Apple has made the decision to go on an 18-month cycle when it comes to updates to its Apple Silicon chips. In other words, instead of releasing new yearly versions, as we’ve seen with the A-band chips present in the iPhone, the Cupertino-based company will only introduce a new generation M every year and a half.

This is stated in a new Taiwanese report.

This information is more or less in line with the rumors that are currently circulating that the M2 chip will arrive no earlier than 2022. Given that the first model was released in 2020, there is about a year and a half left between the two generations. The report in question also states that Apple will maintain its current strategy of launching Pro and Max versions of Apple Silicon chips mid-cycle. In fact, we may see the M2 Max and M2 Pro chips arrive in late 2022 or early 2023.

This is one of the advantages that Apple now has by making its own chips. Instead of relying on Intel technologies and dealing with possible delays, the Cupertino company can now choose to develop and promote its own technologies in accordance with the desired schedule.
