Sony Interactive Entertainment acquires Firewalk Studios

Firewalk Studios joins Japanese publisher Sony’s PlayStation Studios.

The acquisition of Firewalk Studios by Sony Interactive Entertainment comes almost two years after they partnered to create an original multiplayer game exclusively for PS5. Firewalk Studios, which employs approximately 150 people, will work with world-class development teams including Bungie and Haven Interactive Studios to define an editorial lineup of gaming services for PlayStation consoles.

We are excited to announce that Firewalk is joining @PlayStation Studios! I’m honored to be part of such a talented developer community and start a new chapter in our studio’s journey. https://t.co/cXHOEgNI0o

Hermann Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, said:

We are excited to strengthen our partnership with Firewalk Studios and officially welcome the team to PlayStation Studios. We’ve had the privilege of working with Probably Monsters and Firewalk for several years, and our teams share a common ambition to create rewarding experiences for players. Firewalk’s innovative approach to connected storytelling and its commitment to high-quality gameplay continues to exceed our expectations. I think the fans will be very pleased when they see what Firewalk has in store for them.

Firewalk Studios reacts to its acquisition of Sony Interactive Entertainment

Based in Bellevue, Washington, Firewalk Studios was founded in 2018 by Harold Ryan (former CEO of Bungie) as part of a likely monster. Several video game industry veterans who have worked on licenses such as Call of Duty, Destiny, Halo and Apex Legends are involved in the development of Firewalk Studios’ first project.

Tony Hsu, director of Firewalk Studios, explains:

We’ve assembled an amazing Firewalk team, purpose-built to bring the ultimate multiplayer experience to players around the world. Sony Interactive Entertainment has supported our team’s vision from the very beginning and through the incredible creative power of the PlayStation Studios ecosystem. This exciting new step will help us make that vision a reality.
