Sony Pictures Entertainment acquires visual effects specialist Pixomondo
Along with Sony Pictures Imageworks and Sony Innovation Studios, Pixomondo aims to strengthen Sony Pictures Entertainment’s position in virtual production and visual effects for television and film.
New Sony Pictures Entertainment subsidiary Pixomondo (Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, The Mandalorian, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds) will continue to be led by Johnny Slow, who will now report to Ravi Ahuja, president of Global Television Studios and SPE Corporate. Development and will retain three LED film studios, as well as seven offices in the US, UK, Germany and Canada.

Sony Pictures Entertainment’s first virtual LED production room
Earlier this month, Sony Pictures Entertainment announced its first virtual LED manufacturing facility located at Sony Innovation Studios (SIS) in Culver City, a city in Los Angeles County, California. It is the world’s largest display that uses Sony’s high brightness, wide color gamut LED displays, which were created in collaboration with leading engineers for use in motion pictures or series with a virtual environment.
Masaki Nakayama, Senior Vice President and Head of Sony Innovation Studios commented:
We have been developing our virtual production technology since its inception in 2018. Our new LED stage is an important step towards further improvement of our technology. The combination of photorealistic visuals and intuitive virtual production workflows allows creators to focus on creating impactful stories in entirely new ways.
