Sony PS VR 2 will reportedly go on sale around the second quarter of 2022, equipped with 2 x 2160×2160 mini LED displays

Yesterday, Sony unveiled the PlayStation VR 2 (PSVR 2) headset and its new controllers at CES 2022. A new report citing KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo says the headset will begin shipping in the second quarter of 2022.

This is of course likely when the device starts shipping worldwide. Kuo also predicted that Meta (formerly Facebook) will ship 1-2 million units of its upcoming mixed reality headset called Project Cambria during 2022.

Sony PSVR 2 Specifications and Features

As mentioned earlier, the Sony PSVR 2 was announced yesterday at CES. The device has a six-axis motion detection system, which includes a three-axis gyroscope and a three-axis accelerometer. It also has OLED displays with 2000×2040 pixels per eye and 90Hz and 120Hz refresh rates. The separation of the lenses can also be changed by the user.

In addition, the headset provides vibration feedback depending on what it is used for and has a field of view of approximately 110 degrees. The headset also has four cameras and a fifth IR eye tracking camera. There’s a built-in microphone and headphone jack, as well as a USB Type-C port that can be used to charge and connect to the PlayStation 5.

Sony also announced PSVR 2 Sense controllers, which have additional sensors for VR gaming. The controllers have a PS button, an options button, and action buttons – a circle/cross on the right and a triangle/square on the left. The triggers – R1, R2, L1 and L2 – are also shared between the left and right controllers. And as with the PSVR 2 headset itself, the controllers also have a six-axis motion detection system, but you can also detect finger touches on these controllers.

The Japanese giant said that PSVR 2 will offer gamers a “greater sense of presence,”which should improve the overall VR experience. “With a headset and controllers in hand, players will experience a wider range of experiences than any other, thanks to the creativity of the game worlds created by our world-class developers and the latest technologies built into the equipment,” the company said. So it says in their blog post.
