Sony considered porting its PlayStation Now to mobile devices. This could greatly affect the market.

If you have a PlayStation at home, chances are you’re familiar with Sony’s game streaming service, PlayStation Now. This service was launched a few years ago, but today it is only available on Sony PlayStation and PC consoles. That being said, confidential documents used during the lawsuit between Epic and Apple revealed that Sony intended to offer the service on mobile at some point, according to a report by The Verge.

The reason this topic was brought up during the litigation is because the Cupertino company was trying to explain its plans to launch its own subscription service, which was later known as Apple.Acade, and, we don’t really know how the Apple brand came to know about Sony projects. Time has passed since then and PlayStation Now has never made it to platforms other than the PlayStation and PC consoles, but it has been speculated that Sony may have eventually dropped the service in direct competition with Apple.

This could have a big impact on the market.

This could have been a good way to please early PlayStation fans, to encourage them to buy Sony consoles in order to have access to the service.

Either way, with so many hurdles Apple has put in place to be able to offer a video game streaming app on the Apple branded platform, it makes sense. More recently, we’ve also heard that Microsoft tried to convince Apple to allow its streaming services on the App Store by offering certain Xbox game exclusivity, but that deal was ultimately never successful.
