Sony collaborates with Theta Labs to prepare 3D NFT to map spatial reality
The 3D NFTs from Theta Labs will be specifically designed to be viewed and controlled by Japanese electronics giant Sony Spatial Reality Display.
The Spatial Reality Display (SRD), available tomorrow for $4,999.99 and aimed primarily at medical, dental, media and entertainment professionals, renders 3D spatial images as if they were real, and they could be viewed with the naked eye without special goggles or helmets. Thus, it allows you to see the depth, texture and appearance of an object with a real sense of presence. To make this new product work, Sony and Theta Labs will soon be launching an NFT called The Tiki Guy, a 3D Tiki mask.
“The exciting 3D NFTs are a great way to showcase the potential of our spatial reality display to metaverse enthusiasts and collectors. Now consumers can enjoy next-generation 3D images without the need for 3D glasses. NFT Theta is just the latest way to demonstrate our rapid adoption of a metaverse-friendly technology,” said Nick Colsey, vice president of business development at Sony Electronics (part of Sony Group Corporation).
The Tiki Guy, 3D NFT, but not only…
The NFT collection, planned exclusively for ThetaDrop, Theta Labs NFT marketplace, will only include 10 3D Tiki masks. Owners with a US shipping address will also receive a free SRD. While this NFT launch is specifically for 3D viewing, 2D versions of the NFT will also be launched.
Mitch Liu, co-founder and CEO of Theta Labs, believes that the metaverse is already a 3D space and therefore users should be able to view and present their NFTs in a way that has a physical presence.
