Sony State of Play Reveals Hogwarts Legacy Gameplay
At yesterday’s State of Play, players got their first in-depth look at the gameplay and narrative elements of Hogwarts Legacy. State of Play featured approximately 12 minutes of gameplay footage, as well as in-game footage shot with the PS5 dev kit.
The game is still a long way from release, so there’s a good chance things could be slightly different in the final build of the game from what we saw in the gameplay reveal.
The Hogwarts Legacy story follows a young witch/wizard who begins their journey at a famous school in their fifth year. The game is an open world RPG and will allow players to explore the grounds of Hogwarts, Hogsmeade and possibly even beyond.
Avalanche showing off 12 minutes of Hogwarts heritage footage
From what we’ve seen so far, Hogwarts Legacy seems like a solid offering, especially with the combat elements looking pretty solid. The action takes place in the 1800s, so even familiar locations may look a little different to players than what they remember from the movies.
Shortly after arriving at Hogwarts, players will be assigned to one of the 4 Houses in a sorting ceremony. Each house will have its own bedroom and common areas, some of which players will see for the first time, such as the Hufflepuff house.
The game’s main antagonist appears to be a goblin who has formed an alliance with dark wizards and witches to bring about a revolution.
Since the player will start in their fifth year, they have a lot of catching up to do. This is where the Room of Requirements comes in handy, as it will be a place where players can customize and practice spells, brew potions, and do a ton of other things.
The game is scheduled for release in 2022, but the exact release date has not yet been announced. Given that the gameplay we saw was from the PS5 dev kit, we can safely assume that the game is still a long way from launch.
