Microsoft reportedly canceled plans for HoloLens 3
Microsoft no longer intended to develop HoloLens 3. The Redmond-based firm would have partnered with Samsung to create an entirely new product.
It’s been a few years since Microsoft released its HoloLens headset, and it’s also been a few years since the HoloLens 2 was introduced, which means it’s about time for the next generation to launch in terms of the electronics market. And this is all the more true when we know that many rumors suggest that Apple is planning to release its own mixed reality headset. The Redmond firm has no desire to cede this market to the Apple brand, this is obvious.
Microsoft no longer intends to develop HoloLens 3
However, the situation could change significantly. Indeed, if the Business Insider report is to be believed, it looks like Microsoft has canceled its plans for a possible HoloLens 3. The report cites several sources familiar with the matter who claim that Microsoft has signed an agreement with Samsung to develop a new mixed reality headset.
The Redmond-based firm would partner with Samsung to create an entirely new product.
Unfortunately, this agreement with Samsung would not please only within the team, which led, it seems, to a split. Part of the team believes that this partnership with Samsung will allow them to focus on the development of the software platform, while the other part is convinced that the American giant should continue to use its own equipment.
The Redmond-based firm has since denied the report. According to Microsoft spokesman Frank Shaw, “We remain committed to the development of HoloLens and future HoloLens.”The man also qualifies as utterly “decisive”the company’s future projects, like the metaverse. In any case, only time will tell if this report is proven, so the information should be taken with a pinch of salt as just a rumor, another rumor to be added to the mixed reality file.
