Todd McFarlane was eager to direct and had already written a preliminary draft of the script for Spawn. But the renowned comic book writer and artist admits he might not be the right person to take on the project, especially since it features some of the most popular writers in the movie business.
Spawn in the cinema, long wait
While Jamie Foxx is still expected to play the title role, the role of the already announced Jeremy Renner is yet to be determined depending on how the script develops. “Todd McFarlane”was meant to be a low-budget feature film, but the new “Spawn”could benefit from a slightly larger budget, according to Todd McFarlane, who is looking for a financial partner along with the crew.
From comics to the big screen for Spawn
Spawn was the launch title for Image Comics, an artist-founded publishing house that publishes titles such as The Walking Dead, which is still CEO of Todd McFarlane. Spawn’s first issue sold 1.7 million copies, and the character spawned games, an HBO animated series, and a New Line Cinema movie starring Michael Jai White in 1997. Spawn is a former SWAT agent who makes a deal with a demon after being betrayed and killed. The demon allows him to return to Earth, but when he returns, five years have passed, his wife is gone, and he roams the Earth as a mutilated offspring of Hell.
