The best weapon of each type at the start:

• Tactical Axe: This is the weapon you start with. Very handy for collecting materials and building a base in the first few days. But a few hits from this can also help you eliminate the mutants that are roaming your base. Or come to attack you.
• Bow and Arrows and Spear: These weapons are the easiest to craft at the beginning. They need very few materials such as sticks, rope, duct tape and cloth. But it can be useful not only for hunting animals, but also for protection from enemies.
• Combat Knife: This is the default knife you get at startup. The machete is best for slicing up enemies. But you will have to put up with it until you can unlock it.
• Bone: You can easily get it by killing mutants that attack you. Then burn their bodies and you’ll get a handy melee weapon.
• Pistol: Again, one of the easiest weapons to find early on. You can find the pistol on a survival raft floating in the ocean. The only catch is that there is a shark near the raft. So make sure you take your time or you might die.
