Stray: 7 best mods worth using
Stray is a fun game that is best played with mods. Of course, you don’t have to try them on your first playthrough, although you could if you wanted to. But once you’ve beaten the game for the first time, you might be wondering what to do next. This is where these mods come in handy. There are mods that change the model of your cat, and there are mods that even turn the game into a first-person view. So, without further ado, let’s check out this list of the top 7 mods to try on Stray.
List of the best Stray mods
Below I have selected 7 mods that you can try using in this game. 6 of them change the cat model and one changes the way you play the game. These are all of them:
- Cat model modifications
- Garfield – Toon Edition
- happy puppy
- Joke Mod CJ
- Pig in Minecraft over a stray cat
- Siamese cat blue eyes
- Black cat with white whiskers
- Mods that change the gameplay
- First person mod
Let’s check them all.
Garfield – Toon Edition
Speaking of cats, you can’t miss one of the most iconic cats of all, Garfield! And this is where this mod comes in. With this mod you can turn a stray cat into Garfield. There can be no better way to spend your Monday than by installing this mod and playing Stray.
happy puppy
Want to play Stray but not the cat person? Don’t be afraid, the modding community has your back. With this mod you play as a happy puppy. A puppy that happily climbs walls and barks. That’s right, the creator of this mod made the stray cat a Boston Terrier and even added barking sounds to make the mod even better. You have to use the Alt key to make him bark. This is simply one of the best mods for this game.
Joke Mod CJ
If you have ever played GTA San Andreas, you should definitely try this mod. He turns a stray cat into CJ. The mod is supposed to be a joke, even its name says so. But the community liked it so much that now they also want the CJ sounds to be replaced with meows. Although the creator hasn’t added sounds yet, who knows, maybe they will. Imagine a world where a cat talks instead of meows. Move Team Rocket Meowth away from Pokemon, we have a new talking cat in town.
Pig in Minecraft over a stray cat
Love blocky pink pigs in Minecraft? Well, you’re in luck, there is a mod that allows you to turn a Stray Cat into Minecraft pigs. The only thing missing from the mod is the pig sounds from Minecraft. But if you ignore it, you will have the perfect character to play with.
Siamese cat blue eyes
This mod will appeal to players who own a Siamese cat or have ever wanted one. This is a pure mod that replaces the Stray Cat with a Siamese cat with blue eyes. While it might not be the fanciest mod on this list, the simplicity of this mod makes it worth installing. You should enjoy the next playthrough of Stray, but this time as a Siamese cat.
Black cat with white whiskers
Another simple mod on this list is the Black Cat mod. The above mod replaces the cat model with a black cat with white whiskers. There may have been a superstition about black cats in the past. But you can see the love for black cats in the roaming modding community. If you look for a black cat in Nexusmods for Stray, you will find many different ones. There are those that change eye color, mustache and more.
How to install vagrant mods
Since all of the above mods change the cat character model. The way they are installed should be the same.
- Download and extract the mod file.
- Copy the extracted file and place it in the Paks folder. For most users, this should be the Paks C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stray\Hk_project\Content\Paks folder path.
- And to remove or uninstall them, simply delete the mod file from the Paks folder.
Remember that the above method simply changes the character model. You should check the installation instructions given with the actual mod. This is especially necessary if the mod you are using also contains sounds or assets that make other changes to the game.
First person mod
Playing as the Cat, but still feeling like something is missing? The last mod on this list should be the fix you need. As the name suggests, this mod adds a first person camera. So all the exciting platform games you make will now be from the point of view of a cat.
A word of warning: if you have a simulation disease, you should test its gameplay before trying it. The camera will be low, so the movements may be a bit unusual. The mod is not bad, anyway, it makes the gameplay super interesting. The thing is, this game is originally in third-person mode, so if you’re new to first-person games, this might be something you want to take into account.
If you still want to play with other mods, you can find them on Nexusmods for Stray.
That covers this list of the best mods to use on Stray.
