Stray: how to save a game (PS4, PS5 and PC)?

Stray, developed by BlueTwelve Studio, is without a doubt one of my favorite games published by Annapurna Interactive. But like most Annapurna games, Tramp doesn’t tell you how to save your game before exiting the game. So today, let’s see why the developers chose this path, and in addition, we will also show you the location of the Stray save file on PC. So let’s get right into it.

How to save a game on Stray (PS and PC)?

Stray has an autosave feature that will save your game progress during periodic checkpoints such as a cutscene, the start of a new chapter, or when you complete any object in an area. This way you can quickly exit the game and return to the last unlocked checkpoint.

Since the game is designed in such a way that you can complete it in less than 2 hours, the developers feel that the use of autosave is more modern and in line with the theme they are trying to show the players. Also, when you pause the game, a “reload last checkpoint”button will be displayed in the pause menu. Under that, you can see when your last game was saved. So, if you see that your game doesn’t “save”for a few minutes, and you don’t plan to repeat the session again, all you need to do is complete one of the active tasks or objectives before exiting the game.

You can also leave the PS on by turning on the “power saving mode”for the desired hours. Once you return, continue the game. If that’s what you want to do, go to Settings > Power Saving Settings > change the Rest Mode option to “Don’t put into Rest Mode”.

Where can I find configuration and save files on Steam PC?

If you’re playing Stray on PC, you can easily access both save files and configuration files. Thanks to AarohanTechSol (for making a video about it), here is the path to the save and config file:

  • Stray game save files
    • C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\Hk_project\Saved\SaveGames
  • Stray game configuration files
    • C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\Hk_project\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
