iPhone 14 tablet and punch-hole TrueDepth camera design shown in leaked images
The leaked images show the iPhone 14’s TrueDepth camera sensor array up close, with the notch replaced with a tablet and hole punch.
- What is happening? Well-known insiders have released images purporting to show rumored Apple tablets and an iPhone 14 hole-punch design up close.
- Why care? New design cutouts take up less space than old design cutouts.
- What to do? It’s unclear if only the Pro models will adopt this look. You need to wait until September 7th before you can weigh your options.
iPhone 14 close-up notch
The image at the top of this post from Twitter leader Ice Universe shows a close-up of the tablet and hole punch design for the TrueDepth sensor array.
This was photographed on one of the iPhone 14 dummies that were circulating ahead of Apple’s September 7th keynote. The iPhone mockups take hints from the rumor mill, and they’re not 100 percent accurate.
But the images included right in front of you, from Twitter leader DuanRui, appear to show the new round and pill cutouts seen on the real iPhone 14 Pro.
A smaller notch means more space for the status bar.
MacRumors is leaking even more screenshots shared by leaker ShrimpApplePro that were reportedly taken on a physical iPhone 14 Pro.
Comparing these screenshots to their counterparts on the iPhone 13 Pro Max shows that the iOS status bar can expand enough to make room for a better battery percentage indicator than what we have in iOS 16.

“Another purported screenshot from ShrimpApplePro shows how the entire status bar on the iPhone 14 Pro Max is laid out, with the cell signal, Wi-Fi, and battery indicators moving a little lower and to the right,”the article says.
notch shrinks
If anything, these images seem to confirm the analysts who predicted that Apple would replace the display cutout that houses the infamous notch with a new design.
Rumors agree that the iPhone 14 will have a pill-shaped cutout for the TrueDepth camera parts next to a smaller round cutout for the selfie camera.

Such a design would not only reduce the width of the cutout area, but also free up more space on both sides for the status bar area. At the moment, there is little room for doubt that the design of the tablet and hole punch is real.
And we’ve also seen Apple’s recent patent application detailing the use of a folding infrared projector instead of a standard one to reduce the size of the cutout.
