Tapbots Officially Launches Ivory Client for Mastodon Following TweetBot Shutdown
After news that Twitter abruptly stopped supporting third-party clients under the new leadership of Elon Musk, Tapbots, the developer of TweetBot, was eventually forced to abandon its popular app.
However, from the ashes of TweetBot, a new third-party client application called Ivory for the Mastodon platform has risen, which first became available on the App Store on Tuesday afternoon.
Ivory has been a hot topic of discussion over the past few weeks, as Tapbots has been arguably one of the most high-profile third-party client developers affected by Twitter’s recent changes.
While the app has been available in closed beta to a limited number of testers for some time, today is the first time anyone can download the app for free from the App Store and start using it.
Anyone who has been familiar with TweetBot will find that Ivory is very similar to it. However, while there is a learning curve for the Mastodon social network, if you’re used to Twitter, most of the user interface in the Tapbots Ivory app should be easy for users to use.
Ivory is available as a free download from the App Store, but many of its features are blocked by a subscription-based paywall that will cost $1.99 a month or $14.99 a year, the latter option obviously offering the best value for money.
More information about Ivory can be found on the official Tapbots website.
Do you plan to take advantage of Ivory, or have you chosen to stay on Twitter and continue using your own app? Let us know in the comments section below.
