The new Mutant Ninja Turtles animation project is a joint project between Nickelodeon Animation Studio/Nickelodeon Movies, Paramount Animation and Point Gray Pictures. Two years ago, Seth Rogen said that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem would be a film about the youth of the famous turtles:
As a longtime Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan, oddly enough, the teenage part of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stood out the most. And because I love teen movies, I’ve done a lot of teen movies and literally started my career writing teen movies, the idea of emphasizing that element was really interesting to us. I mean, not neglecting the rest, but really using that as sort of a starting point for the movie.
Teenage vibes in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem
During the 2022 Annecy International Animated Film Festival, Jeff Rowe once again stated that Mutant Mayhem will focus on the teen side of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. He also announced the film’s animation, inspired by the scribbles he made in the margins of his exercise books in high school. Press at the event described the brief footage shown as raw, hand-drawn despite using 3D-CG animated characters, with a layer of 2D effects similar to those in Arcane highlighting the teen’s radical spirit.
Note that Seth Rogen recently revealed that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be played by real teenagers, not adult actors. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem will be released in theaters on August 2, 2023 in France and August 11, 2023 in the US.
