Redmi K50 series phone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor will be released before Dimensity 9000 variants, other models will follow
Xiaomi is gearing up to launch the Redmi K50 series in China. The company will announce the release of its new series of premium smartphones in China in February 2022. The list of devices includes Redmi K50, K50 Pro, Pro+ and K50 Pro Gaming Edition.
Redmi has not yet confirmed the exact launch date for its upcoming premium phones. Meanwhile, Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing took to Weibo to confirm the launch of the Redmi K50 series phone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. Xiaomi spokesperson also stated that the upcoming Redmi flagship with SoC Dimensity 9000 will be launched later this year.
The launch of the Redmi K50 series is imminent
GM Redmi Lu Weibing hinted at the launch of the K50 series in China via Weibo. When asked by a user about the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 based K50 series device, Weibing said that the phone will be launched “a bit later”.
MediaTek Dimensity 9000 based phones were previously expected to be released in February. The K50 series was expected to be one of the first to ship with MediaTek’s flagship chipset. However, it looks like both companies have hit a snag, causing the launch to be delayed. Rumor has it that the Redmi K50 Pro is equipped with the Dimensity 9000 SoC, while the K50 Gaming may come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.
On the contrary, some reports also say that the Gaming Edition variant may have a Dimensity 9000 chip, while the vanilla K50 will come with a Dimensity 8000 SoC. Xiaomi has not yet confirmed the details. Therefore, it is better to wait for more detailed information to appear on the network and not get confused in the resulting leaks.
Regardless, the K50 series is expected to feature a 6.67-inch AMOLED display. All four devices can ship with 120Hz refresh rate support. The Gaming Edition is confirmed to pack a 4,700mAh battery and support 120W fast charging out of the box. Future Xiaomi Redmi flagships will run MIUI 13 based on Android 12 in China.
The phones are expected to feature a triple camera on the back. The K50 Pro can get a 50MP Samsung GN5 sensor or a 108MP main camera. On the other hand, the Gaming Edition is rumored to come with a 48MP or 64MP main camera. The rear camera will also include a 13MP ultra wide-angle camera and a 2MP/5MP macro camera. It will be equipped with a 16-megapixel front camera. This device is expected to be released as the Poco F4 GT in select markets outside of China.
