Tencent hires Sean Layden as strategic advisor
Sean Leiden is Tencent’s video game strategy advisor.
More than a year after joining the advisory board of Streamline Media Group, a provider of video game and metaverse solutions that drive the digital transformation of brands and global industries, Sean Leiden, former CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America and SIE Worldwide Studios, joins Chinese. giant Tencent as a strategic advisor:
In this new role, I hope to be able to advise, assist and support the Tencent team in deepening their activities and commitments in the sector to which I have dedicated most of my career. We are at a turning point for gaming and interactive entertainment. Many points of view are available to us, but few of them are deep, expanded, inclusive, enriching, inspiring and/or sustainable. I am excited to continue this journey of discovery in the industry and thank Tencent for this opportunity.
Sean Layden, long-term relationship with Sony
Sean Leiden has worked in various departments at Sony since the 1980s, rising to senior positions as Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe in 1999 and as President of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan in 2007. Chief Operating Officer, President and CEO of PlayStation from 2010 to 2016 before taking on the position of President of SIE Worldwide Studios, which would later be taken over by Hermen Hulst of PlayStation Studios. Despite his departure from Sony, Sean Layden has often spoken highly of his former employer in the trade press, going so far as to defend certain decisions, notably the new pricing of PS5 games.
