For those who don’t know, Dryad is an NPC that sells all kinds of seeds and only appears after you’ve defeated any boss. Back on topic, pumpkin seeds can be bought from dryads for 250x coins. After that, you need to clear at least 2×2 blocks (2x high and 2x wide) when planting a pumpkin in Terraria. Also, keep in mind that plant boxes and clay pots cannot be used to grow pumpkins.
