Tesla forced to recall its Cyberquad for Kids

Tesla Cyberquad for Kids recalled in the US. Some items do not meet country standards.

Radio Flyer (the manufacturer of the product) is recalling the Tesla Cyberquad for Kids after the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) found several violations of child safety standards on all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). Among other things, the agency determined that the mechanical suspension and maximum tire pressure were inadequate. In addition, Cyberquad for Kids lacked an ATV-approved action plan outlining safety requirements. This document is required to manufacture, import, sell, or distribute ATVs in the United States.

In a recall notice found by The Verge, CPSC explains that about 5,000 Cyberquad for Kids units were sold. Tesla put the car up for sale right through their website. The Radio Flyer explained to those who bought it that they must return control of the engine immediately (removing it permanently disables the Cyberquad) for a full refund of $1,900. The company will also reimburse certain costs for the return of the engine control unit and the disposal of other parts. No one knows if the new Cyberquad for Kids will see the light of day.

The electric Cyberquad for Kids offered a range of 25 km with a top speed of 16 km/h. It has a steel frame, padded seat and LED strips. Although there are no reports of serious accidents, Radio Flyer explains that they were aware of a case in which a Cyberquad for Kids, designed and intended for one passenger, rolled over while carrying a woman and a child, an adult suffered a shoulder bruise.

Radio Flyer also stated that Tesla was not very involved in this Cyberquad for Kids project, just handling sales and acting as a consultant on the overall design of the car. It was supposed to look like the standard Cyberquad that Tesla announced with its Cybertruck. Radio Flyer also sells toy versions of Tesla cars for kids.
