The Last of Us: the film adaptation of the series is scheduled for 2023
While filming began in July 2021 and production is due to wrap up before the end of 2022, The Last of Us TV series won’t air until 2023 on US HBO.
“It won’t air in 2022, they’re still filming in Canada. I guess you’ll see that in 2023,”HBO and HBO Max program director Casey Bloys told Deadline’s Winter TCA. “I have watched the first episodes and I am very excited. Craig Mazin directed Chernobyl for us, he is a fantastic writer and director. What I’ve seen looks amazing so I’m excited about it, but not this year. ”
The first PlayStation Productions television series for Sony Interactive Entertainment, Sony Pictures Entertainment and HBO is to cover The Last of Us and may include content based on The Last of Us 2. Game of Thrones actors Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey play the main characters, Joel and Ellie. Nico Parker plays Sarah, Joel’s daughter, and Gabriel Luna plays the role of Tommy, Joel’s brother. The cast also includes Anna Torv (the official voice of Merle Dandridge’s character), Nick Offerman, Geoffrey Pierce, and Murray Bartlett.
‘The Last of Us’ is not HBO’s new ‘Game of Thrones’
The scope and features of The Last of Us have been compared to Game of Thrones, the popular HBO fantasy series. There is also a close bond between the two behind the scenes as Carolyn Strauss, the executive producer of GOT, is now the executive producer of The Last of Us.
To avoid a long wait, Casey Bloys was quick to dismiss any idea going in that direction: “There will be no next GOT game. I’ve been here long enough to relive the next Soprano, the next Game of Thrones, and now Legacy. There are no new GOTs. “
