Streaming Xbox games to Steam Deck is possible, but not easy
Microsoft confirms that you can stream your Xbox games to Steam Deck, but the operation is not the easiest.
Valve’s new portable console, the Steam Deck, allows you to stream games via Steam Link. Which is quite logical, since both the console and the application belong to the same object. But what if you want to stream through another service? The good news is that it turns out that streaming Xbox games to the console is also possible. How?”or “What?”This is where things get a little more complicated.
Microsoft confirms you can stream your Xbox games on Steam Deck
In order to be able to enjoy Xbox games on a Steam deck, you will have to implement a workaround. In a post on Reddit, Microsoft announced that it is going to enable streaming on Steam Deck. The operation will be possible through the Edge browser, but to use this solution, you will need to download and install the Linux version of the Edge browser directly on the console.
But the operation is not the easiest
Luckily, the Redmond firm has made public the instructions to follow in order to achieve this goal. If you have time ahead of you and/or want to have more options for playing your Steam deck, it’s in your best interest to follow this procedure. However, keep in mind that you must have a valid and active Microsoft Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription to be able to stream your Xbox games to Valve’s handheld console.
This workaround is very similar to the solution Microsoft used to bring its game streaming service to devices like Apple’s iPhone and iPad. We’d obviously prefer to have our own app on the Steam deck, but for now, we’ll have to make do with that option through the browser. Let’s hope the game stays smooth and enjoyable for the players.
