TrollTools has been updated to version 2.0 with safer app icon themes and other improvements.
We recently showed you a new TrollStore add-on called TrollTools from iOS developer SourceLocation that allows users to customize app icons, notification icons, and passcode buttons. Today, the developer announced in the /r/jailbreak thread that TrollTools is being updated to version 2.0.
So what’s new? According to the developer, the app icon decoration feature is now much safer to use and eliminates the vast majority of WebClip-based themes (the method used by the Shortcuts app), with the exception of system apps. It also works on Apple Watch.
The removal of web clips for third-party apps means that theme creation is 25% faster and more efficient. This also means that users won’t see any shortcuts app-related pop-ups when launching themed app icons. WebClips are still used for system applications.
TrollTools’ biggest competitor, Mugunghwa by developer Soongyu Kwon, also does pretty much the same thing as TrollTools. Kwon criticized TrollTools, going so far as to suggest that Mugunghwa is better and that TrollTools causes bootloops, but similar comments were made by TrollTools SourceLocation developer about Mugunghwa, so it’s one word against another from where we sit and users have safely used both products.
Continuous updates to both products have increased in recent times as each developer cites increased reliability, and that is exactly what the free market allows as the two competing parties work to provide users with a better product. This is healthy competition and only benefits the end user.
If you’re interested in trying out TrollTools version 2.0, you can visit the GitHub developer page to learn more about it. Currently, the developer has intentionally not open-sourced the package. TrollTools can be installed and signed on iOS 15 devices using TrollStore.
