Twitter signs (already) the end of its Moments

Twitter is removing the Moments feature altogether. This is not in line with Elon Musk’s vision of the platform.

Twitter has decided to shut down the Moments feature, as the company recently announced. The last one, launched in 2015, allowed users to create collections of tweets to make it easier to monitor specific events happening on the platform. “Not every moment lasts. Starting today, we are removing the ability to create Moments for users, we are focused on improving other features, ”the Twitter support account said in a tweet, adding that existing Moments will remain on the site.

Twitter removes Moments feature completely

The end of Twitter Moments is not entirely surprising for several reasons. Before Elon Musk bought the company, Twitter began to distance itself from the feature. In 2017, the company removed the ability to create moments from its Android and iOS apps: “When features are not used very often, we remove them so we can focus on developing other products that you will enjoy,” Twitter wrote at the time.

This is not in line with Elon Musk’s vision of the platform.

With the advent of Elon Musk at the head of the company, it is quite clear that Moments could be described as a feature that does not correspond to his vision of the platform. The American billionaire has repeatedly said he wants to simplify Twitter by turning it into a “super app”. Mentioning the source of the tweet (Twitter for iPhone, for example) was one of the first victims of this desire. The fact that Twitter lost most of its moderation team during the layoff rounds must have also made the decision to end support for Moments easier.

In any case, this can still be a very interesting and useful feature for those who are missing. And one less argument to justify using Twitter for the same users…
