Twitter raises character limit for paid users to 10,000
Twitter is increasing the character limit for paid users to 10,000. Enough to attract (and retain) content creators and their communities?
For Twitter Blue subscribers residing in the United States, the platform’s 280-character limit is a thing of the past since February, when they were allowed to post tweets up to 4,000 characters long. Today, the company goes even further, multiplying it by 2.5, while the maximum length is now fixed at 10,000 characters.

In addition, the platform also supports some simple text formatting rules, such as bold and italic, which allow content creators to emphasize certain parts and/or break up long texts. Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced in early March that the site would soon allow even longer tweets, just a month after increasing to 4,000 characters.
If this 10,000 word limit may seem overwhelming to most users – it’s still around 2,000 words – Twitter has certainly introduced this capability for users looking to monetize their posts. The company recently renamed its “Super Follows”to “Subscriptions,”allowing users to charge $3, $5, or $10 per month for access to exclusive content, including subscriber-only chats on Spaces. Twitter also promised not to take commission on this income for 12 months.
Enough to attract (and retain) content creators and their communities?
By increasing the character limit on tweets for Blue users, as well as allowing them to post “hour-long videos,”Twitter gives creators more ways to keep their followers engaged. At the same time, by getting users to spend more time on the site, you get more opportunities to show ads and, therefore, generate more income. At the same time, Super Follows never succeeded. Time will tell if this subscription option is better.
We’re improving the writing and reading experience on Twitter! Starting today, Twitter supports tweets up to 10,000 characters long with bold and italic text formatting.
