Twitter lays off about 100 employees from its recruiting team

Twitter is laying off many members of its recruiting team, and it’s a difficult situation.

Twitter has parted ways with dozens of employees as uncertainty still reigns over Elon Musk’s takeover of the company. As such, according to The Wall Street Journal, the company has cut the size of its talent scouting team, which includes recruiters and other HR-related profiles, by 30%. Twitter told the U.S. daily that “less than 100 people”were fired and only the talent team was affected.

The microblogging firm previously announced a partial hiring freeze in a broader effort to cut costs in hopes of finalizing its takeover of Elon Musk. The status of this deal is still very unclear, as Elon Musk has threatened to pull out of it, citing concerns in part about the number of bots on the platform. Most recently, The Washington Post reported that the deal was “under serious threat”and that “a change in the leadership of Elon Musk’s team is coming soon.”

The topic of layoffs was recently discussed during a Q&A session with Elon Musk. Tesla’s CEO said he was concerned about the costs on Twitter, but didn’t directly answer a question about possible layoffs: “It depends on the circumstances,”he simply replied.

Difficult situation to accept

In a LinkedIn post, Ingrid Johnson, a senior tech recruiter at Twitter, wrote that it was “a really hard day.”“There are people who are losing their jobs that they have worked here for over a decade. If Twitter chose to spend billions attacking Elon and pursue a false course of action at the expense of the people who gave their lives to build the company, that’s an even more tragic story.”

Twitter isn’t the only tech company slowing down hiring or firing. Meta recently said it was slowing down recruitment in preparation for “hard times.”Netflix, Unity, Coinbase and PayPal have laid off numerous employees.
