William Friedkin returns to the film world with Kane’s Mutiny Court Martial.

Modern history for the new adaptation of Cain’s Rebellion Martial Tribunal.

William Friedkin (Rules of Participation, The Hunt, Killer Joe) claims he retouched the script for the play Kane’s Mutiny Tribunal-Martial to modernize the story to hook viewers:

I’ve looked at a lot of scripts over the last ten years and haven’t seen one that really makes me want to do this. But I thought about it a lot and I thought it could be a very timely and important piece of work, as well as a great drama. Court Martial Kane Mutiny is one of the finest court martial dramas ever written. The original piece was written for World War II and Herman Wouk included all the pent-up anger in this country over Pearl Harbor. I updated it so it’s not Pearl Harbor anymore. I made it modern, including the Gulf of Hormuz and the Strait of Hormuz leading to Iran. There has never been a mutiny in the US Navy. Herman Wouk actually staged the first and only mutiny in the US military. His dialogue is terrible, it goes straight to the point. The story takes place during the trial, but everything is really within the rules, in terms of accuracy. But there has never been a mutiny in the American army. He invented her and everything that will happen around her, based on the laws that cover her.

William Friedkin to direct Kiefer Sutherland

In a recent interview with Deadline, William Friedkin said he has long admired Kiefer Sutherland and cast him in this intense courtroom thriller.

I think he is one of the best actors in America, one of the very best. I have seen all episodes of his series 24 Heures chrono. I thought he was great, but he can do so much more and that gives him the opportunity to shine.
