ACCELERATION IN FIFA 23 – how does it work?

Over the years, EA Sports’ FIFA series has strived to bring a super realistic football experience with their gameplay and visuals. This means not only graphic animation, but also the integration of various attributes such as strength, agility, attack or defense capabilities, and most importantly, the smooth pace of real players in the game. Big players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have dominated matches mostly due to how fast their character can run and push through defense, and rightly so. However, FIFA 23’s new AcceleRATE system seems to bring a balance to the game by adjusting different players’ tempo stats based on key factors. In this guide, we will explain how this system works.

What is the AcceleRATE system in FIFA 23?

Acceleration is basically a change in a player’s running speed over a certain distance. The sprint speed and acceleration itself calculates the average pace of the player. The AcceleRATE system basically divides all players in FIFA 23 into three types of acceleration. These categories are based on key physical factors such as height, strength, and agility. Three categories:

  • Controlled: This is essentially the default boost type for players who don’t meet the criteria for the other two types. Most player cards will have a “Controlled”type that offers balanced acceleration.
  • Explosive: This type of acceleration mainly offers players a quick start, which gradually decreases after short to medium distances. The general criteria for this archetype are short players with relatively high agility and lower strength.
  • Sustained: In this type of acceleration, players will have a relatively sluggish start, but when they reach peak acceleration after a certain distance, they can be the fastest players on the field. The main criteria for this type of boost are taller players with relatively high Strength but low Dexterity.

How to get specific types of boosts

Now these boost types make some players more viable in certain positions, even more so than their higher stat counterparts. However, in order for boost types to take effect in the game, players need to meet certain chemistry type requirements. Apart from some that fall into the “Explosive”or “Long”category by default, other controlled players need special types of chemistry that either increase their strength or agility. You can check this for any player in the FUT Squad tab.

Typically, short players will get +15 Agility when they have the Artist’s Chemical type, which can make them explosive. Alternatively, having the Architect’s Chemical type on tall players gives them a +15 Strength boost, which can make them Long. Some versatile controlled type players like Rui Manuel Costa have stats that can give him either explosive or long archetypes, depending on team chemistry.
