USB-C devices will need to ask for permission before sending data to macOS Ventura.
macOS Ventura will ask the user for permission before restoring data from a USB device, which is a welcome additional protection against malicious code.
While USB devices are extremely practical, especially USB keys because they make it very easy to transfer files, they can also pose a great security risk to our machines. Indeed, these devices are often automatically “mounted”in operating systems, and scripts can be executed automatically on machines. This can have dire consequences for your data and the machine itself. Apple has found a parade with macOS Ventura.
macOS Ventura will ask the user for permission before restoring data from a USB device.
macOS Ventura will be a little more reassuring if you’re worried that compromised devices might damage your computer. As reported by The Verge, the Cupertino-based company explains that macOS Ventura will ask the user for permission before USB-C and Thunderbolt accessories can transfer any data to a Mac with an Apple Silicon M1 or M2 chip. You no longer have to worry that malware will get into your computer just by plugging in a USB key, or that a poorly designed product will damage your device and send false information.
Desired additional protection against malicious code
This procedure will be enabled by default, but it will not apply to accessories connected to your Mac during an OS update. Also, external monitors, power adapters, or products connected to already approved hubs will not be affected by this protection. Devices will also continue to charge even when locked, so you can still use your computer to charge a friend’s phone, for example.
This device won’t prevent the device’s USB port from being burned out by an electrical impulse, but it does add an extra layer of security that is very valuable to anyone who regularly uses USB devices. The final decision on access to support data will be up to the user, and this can help prevent malicious code from appearing on their computer.
