Apple’s most expensive battery replacement in iPhone 14
The out-of-warranty battery replacement cost for all iPhone 14 models has increased significantly from $69 to $99 in the US.
- What is happening? Apple has increased the battery replacement cost for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pros to $99, up nearly fifty percent from $69.
- Why care? All batteries wear out over time. If you don’t upgrade to a new iPhone every year, replacing the battery in your iPhone 14 will cost more than it used to.
- What to do? Consider AppleCare+ ($199 or $10/month), which provides free battery replacement as well as perks like accidental damage coverage and more.
How much does an iPhone 14 battery replacement cost?
Information about this appeared on Apple’s iPhone repair and service webpage.
It says Apple’s battery replacement service for iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max has increased from $69 to $99. This includes the cost of an original new battery and service at one of Apple Stores, Apple Authorized Repair Providers, or Apple Authorized Service Providers.
However, for all older iPhones, a battery replacement will still set you back $69. Out-of-warranty battery replacement costs vary by country and region, and are even higher in many parts of the world due to inflation.
It’s unclear why battery replacement prices have gone up in the latest iPhones. It looks like Apple wants you to consider AppleCare+, its optional extended coverage that includes free battery maintenance. According to Apple, this means your battery “can be replaced free of charge if we test your product and its battery retains less than eighty percent of its original capacity.”
This is not the only out-of-warranty service fee that has increased in cost. For example, if you live in the United States, you will pay Apple $379 to repair a cracked display glass on an iPhone 14 Pro Max versus $329 for the same repair on an iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Battery Capacity: iPhone 13 vs iPhone 14
The iPhone 14 will go on sale this Friday and the iPhone 14 Pro in November. Apple never estimates battery capacity for iPhones, so we won’t know that information for sure until the latest phones come out and iFixit rips them apart.
However, Twitter account ShrimpApplePro, which previously leaked reliable information about unreleased Apple products, reported the numbers in June.
Battery capacity for iPhone 13 models:
- iPhone 13 mini: 2406 mAh
- iPhone 13: 3227 mAh
- iPhone 13 Pro: 3095 mAh
- iPhone 13 Pro Max: 4352 mAh
Battery capacity for iPhone 14 models:
- iPhone 14: 3279 mAh
- iPhone 14 Plus: 4325 mAh
- iPhone 14 Pro: 3200 mAh
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: 4323 mAh
When an iPhone battery drops below eighty percent of its original capacity, iOS slows down the phone to keep the battery healthy and prevent sudden crashes.

You can choose additional AppleCare+ coverage for your iPhone 14, which includes a battery replacement service and benefits such as accidental damage coverage.
However, don’t choose AppleCare+ just to get a free battery replacement because AppleCare+ for iPhone 14 (and other models) costs $10 a month or $199 upfront.
