Does your iPhone support displaying battery percentage in the iOS status bar?

iOS 16 brings back the ability to display battery percentage in the status bar so it’s visible at all times. But does your iPhone support it?

Apple restores the battery percentage indicator

You may have heard that Apple has restored one of the most requested iOS features, the ability to display battery percentage in the iOS status bar, where it is visible at all times. But the introduction of the iPhone X in 2017 changed that because the notch split the status bar into two smaller areas.

Prior to iOS 16, the only way to see the battery percentage on an iPhone was through Control Center. You had to swipe down from the top right to open the Control Center overlay, which displayed the battery percentage next to the battery icon in the top right.

iOS 16 changed this so that the battery percentage is now printed on the battery icon in the status bar. Some did not like this change, they called it a bad design that is hard to read. If you have iOS 16, you can go to Settings → Battery to turn on the battery percentage display. Read: 40+ Ways to Save iPhone Battery Life

As it turns out, battery percentage does not work on all iPhone models that are compatible with iOS 16. For some strange reason, some models with smaller screens do not support battery percentage, including all iPhone mini models. Here’s the full list of iPhones that have been tested to support battery percentage display so far, confirmed by MacRumors.

If your iPhone isn’t on the list, we’re guessing you’ll feel a little left out. On the other hand, iOS 16 is still a work in progress and won’t be launched publicly until the fall, so there’s still time to bring the feature to smaller models like the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 13 mini..
