Recreate the fun of a 1980s gaming crash with a $240 Lego Atari 2600 replica.

Even the cheapest and slowest modern game consoles are capable of rendering high-resolution 3D graphics that would have been unthinkable a few decades ago. But if you’re old enough to remember when video game graphics were just a collection of colorful abstract blobs, Lego has something for you.

The new 2532-piece set recreates a 1980s four-switch version of the venerable Atari Video Computer System (VCS), later known as the Atari 2600. The set includes a movable joystick, three game cartridges that can be inserted into the computer. or an 80s brown storage rack, and other nostalgic touches – even the cheap woodgrain texture on the front of the console has been lovingly recreated with Lego bricks.

The Lego Atari 2600 will go on sale August 1 for $239.99.

The Atari 2600 set is sort of a continuation of the 2646-piece Nintendo Entertainment System released a couple of years ago. But where that console included a replica TV with a 2D Super Mario Bros picture that could actually scroll, the Atari 2600 set includes an 80s living room that slides out of the console and miniature scenes depicting the centipede from the Centipede game.. , asteroids from the game Asteroids and adventures from the game Adventure.

The Lego Atari 2600 is just the latest in a long line of sets aimed at kids who previously loved Lego. Other nostalgic sets with thousands of parts include a NES replica, a miniature recreation of Super Mario 64, a lovingly crafted typewriter with working keys, and a Lego Optimus Prime that can actually transform into a Lego truck.
