iOS 16.0.3 has been released with iPhone 14 Pro bug fixes and other improvements.
Apple released iOS 16.0.3 as a firmware update to the general public on Monday along with watchOS 9.0.2 to fix a lot of different bugs that affect various phones, but most of the fixes are focused mainly on the iPhone 14 line.
iOS 16.0.3 software update
The iOS 16.0.3 software update comes just over two weeks after Apple released iOS 16.0.2 with other bug fixes for the iPhone 14 lineup, and as noted in the iOS 16.0.3 changelog, the update contains the following changes:
- Fixed an issue that could cause incoming calls and app notifications to be delayed or not delivered on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
- Fixes an issue that could cause low microphone volume during CarPlay phone calls on iPhone 14 models.
- Fixes an issue that could cause the camera to be slow to launch or switch between modes on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
- Fixes an issue that could cause the Mail app to crash on launch after receiving an invalid email.
Missing Notifications
Some iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max users have reported that their notifications are not displaying properly, leaving many of them unnoticed.
With the iOS 16.0.3 update, iPhone users should now see every notification they receive, and they don’t inexplicably disappear.
CarPlay low volume issues
iPhone 14 Pro users have been complaining about low volume during CarPlay phone calls since mid-September. In particular, the user’s voice could sound more distant than it should be for the recipient of the call.
While the problem was mostly with iPhone 14 Pro models, some iPhone 14 users have also reported it. The changelog for iOS 16.0.3 notes that this issue has now been fixed for iPhone 14 Pro users, but it remains to be seen if affected iPhone 14 users will get the same improvements.
Camera speed issues
Some iPhone 14 Pro users also complained in September that the Camera app was slow to open in the viewfinder or switch between camera modes. Under certain circumstances, this may affect the ability to take urgent pictures.
With the iOS 16.0.3 update released today, these users should now have a Camera app that behaves as expected, providing a viewfinder very quickly so photos can be taken as quickly and smoothly as we expect from an iPhone.
Update to iOS 16.0.3 now
If you are ready to upgrade to the newer iOS 16.0.3 software update on your compatible iPhone, you can go to Settings → General → Software Update on the device to start the OTA software update. The update is relatively small and should only take a few minutes.
Obviously, if you’ve jailbroken or are expecting an upcoming jailbreak, you should avoid updating as it’s best to stay on the lowest possible firmware in that case.
Depending on your carrier, you may need to connect to Wi-Fi before downloading. Some carriers allow software updates while connected to a 5G cellular network.
