WhatsApp is working on the ability to report status updates

As with messages, status update messages that violate the official terms of service help keep WhatsApp as a safe place for all users.

  • What’s happening? WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will allow you to report unwanted status updates to the Meta moderation team.
  • Why care? You can already report messages, but this feature will allow you to also report any status that may violate the WhatsApp Terms of Use.
  • What to do? If you already have this feature, look for the “Report”button in the. .. (ellipsis) menu when viewing a person’s status updates.

WhatsApp is testing status update messages

This new feature appeared in WhatsApp for iOS version 2.23.4.74 beta with build number TestFlight 23.4.0 (449404095) after being seen in Android version 2.23.1.27 beta in January. Currently, a small percentage of beta testers have access to it.

While this feature is currently in development and not ready for primetime release, WABetaInfo was able to test it ahead of a wider release.

WhatsApp widely provides the ability to report statuses.

People are free to share disappearing text, photos and videos in whatsapp status and not all of them post content that is safe to view. What is needed is a reporting option that will give pause to the impolite types who post all sorts of problematic content in their statuses.

When will this feature be launched for all users?

Ultimately, it may be weeks or months before status reports are released to the general public in a future WhatsApp update for iOS and Android. Meta first began testing this feature in the beta version of WhatsApp Desktop in December 2022.

How to Notify Whatsapp Status Update

To report an unwanted status update to the WhatsApp moderation team, select the message option from the context menu when viewing someone’s status.

  1. Select the Status tab in the WhatsApp mobile app.
  2. Select the person’s status under the heading “Recent Updates”.
  3. Tap the … (ellipsis) icon, then select Report from the menu.

The selected status will be sent to WhatsApp for verification.

If the content of the reported status violates the WhatsApp Terms of Use, the team may remove the problematic post from the platform. You can report the status of both individual users and companies. Meta’s messaging app is testing other new features like audio transcription and call scheduling.
