WhatsApp now lets you delete a message after two days instead of one hour
WhatsApp has announced that users can now delete an inappropriate text message two days after it was sent instead of one hour.
- What is happening? After testing the new “Delete for All”time limit for several months, WhatsApp launched it for all users in the latest update.
- Why care? If you sent an inappropriate message to the wrong contact, you can spare yourself the shame by deleting it within one hour. The generous limit expansion means you can now delete a message after just over 48 hours, giving you precious extra time to undo those drunken texts you sent last night to your ex or boss.
- What to do? Test this feature by trying to delete an existing message that is over an hour old, as usual. All chat participants must be using the latest version of WhatsApp for this to work.
WhatsApp extends Delete for All feature to 2 days
The WhatsApp Twitter account made the announcement on August 8. “Rethinking your message?”post reads. “You will now have a little over two days to delete messages from chats after you hit send. As before, you can delete a message sent to an individual or group chat, but the recipients will be visually notified that you have retracted it.
Messages successfully deleted for everyone are replaced with a “This message has been deleted”status displayed in small print on the recipients’ devices. And you yourself will see the status “You deleted this message” on your device. WhatsApp has previously tested this feature with a small number of users.
How to revoke whatsapp texts
First update your copy of WhatsApp for iOS [ App Store link] or Android to the latest version. Open the updated app, select one of the existing chats and press and hold on the message to open the context menu. Now select “Delete”from the menu, then select “WhatsApp”or “Delete for me”to complete the action.
If more than 24 hours have passed since the message was sent, you will not be able to revoke it, as the “Delete for all”item will not be visible in the menu. Another thing to keep in mind is that WhatsApp does not currently send a notification if deleting a message for everyone fails for any reason.
And finally, if you remember a message containing a media attachment and the recipient has set their WhatsApp to automatically save incoming photos and videos to the Photos app, they may still have your sent and then retracted photos and videos in their Photos. even after you recalled the whatsapp message.
