Windows 11 is testing a redesigned volume mixer

Windows 11 is getting a redesigned volume mixer that’s much more user-friendly and offers more control.

Windows has made it difficult, or at least frustrating, to manage multiple audio devices on a single device more than once. Over the years, Microsoft has tried to improve this in several ways. For example, in 2021, the Redmond-based firm simplified the way it categorizes Bluetooth devices in Windows 10. Despite these efforts, it often feels like the operating system doesn’t let you switch outputs or handle volumes as easily as it should.

Luckily, it looks like the American giant has decided to tackle this problem and thus remove this little thorn in the side of many Windows users. The company detailed the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview this week, and it turns out this version has a redesigned volume mixer in Quick Settings. This updated UI element not only allows you to switch between audio devices, but also allows you to use it to activate spatial audio and adjust volume on a per-app basis, two actions that we couldn’t do with the current design. In addition, Microsoft has added a dedicated shortcut to make accessing this feature even faster. Once you have accessed the volume mixer, simply press the Windows keys

Much more comfortable and offers more control

“With this change, you can now control your audio with more control and fewer clicks to better match your favorite apps,”Microsoft says of the redesigned interface. As Bleeping Computer points out, this new volume mixer is reminiscent of the popular EarTrumpet mod. No one knows when the Redmond-based company intends to release these latest Windows Insider features to the general public, but it may not take very long. To be continued!
