XPG overclocks DDR5 RAM to over 8000 MT/s for the first time

Extreme Performance Gear, commonly known as XPG, may soon bring the latest DDR5 RAM to the market. However, the brand seems to be already working on catching the attention of gamers as the company announced that its DDR5 RAM has been overclocked to this extent in the overclocking lab. XPG, the gaming brand of Taiwanese company Adata, specializes in systems, components, and peripherals for gamers, esports professionals, and enthusiasts. The company has announced that XPG Over Clocking Lab (XOCL) has overclocked its upcoming DDR5 memory module to 8118MT/s in DRAM actually rated for a base clock of 4800MT/s.

XPG has shared data supporting their claims. The company provided CPU-Z results to support its claims. The first attempt reached a clock speed of 8118 MT/s, while the second attempt resulted in a slightly slower clock rate of 8104 MT/s. This is the first time a DDR5 memory module has been overclocked to this extent, and XPG says it’s a “record milestone”.

However, XPG has already hinted that new sticks will arrive later with a maximum possible clock speed of 12,600 MT/s. The company is expected to release new DDR5 RAM this month. However, it is unclear whether users in real situations will be able to repeat such overclocking steps. When it comes to screenshots and what we get from them, not everything is open yet. However, XPG Overclocking Lab (XOCL) used a prototype 16 GB DDR5 memory module based on We Hynix chips with a standard data rate of 4800 MT/s. We use the term “pre-preparation”because some of the parts in the screenshots are grayed out.
